If you ever find yourself in a situation where, upon dying, there is no member of your dynasty to inherit your titles, you will immediately lose the game. In Crusader Kings 2, you play as one member of your dynasty until you die, at which point you take the reins of another member of your dynasty, usually your heir. For now we just need to focus on the most important aspect of marriages: Expanding Your Dynasty. There’s so much to know about marriages that I couldn’t possibly go through all of it in one place, and for a beginner most of it is irrelevant. Marriages can be used for:Īs well as a myriad of other minor reasons, such as getting a troublesome character out of your court. The marriage system is at once simple and, much like the rest of the game, shockingly in-depth. To that end, knowing how and why to get married is perhaps the most important thing you can know going in. What this means is that while conquering fresh land is important, as in many similar games, looking after your family is perhaps even more vital.

One of Crusader Kings 2’s greatest features is that it’s not only a strategy game, it’s also a semi-roleplaying Dynasty Management Simulator (sounds thrilling, I know).

Luckily there are actually only two things you need to know to start exploring the game for yourself how to get married and how to go to war. I came to the game when it was relatively young, only a year or so old, and I was still blown away by how different what I was playing was from what I saw people playing on Youtube. Not only is there so much to know about the game that it’s impossible to know where to start, but because it’s constantly being updated and tweaked most tutorials, guides and Let’s Plays out there are wildly out of date. It’s also the reason it’s such a formidable task to start learning, however. It’s part of why the game is so fresh and exciting, even 4 years after it’s release.
